Maydena Adventure Hub Opportunities
DATE 27/06/2008
Forestry Tasmania wants to partner with tourism operators to provide a range of exceptional outdoor adventure activities and is seeking applications from a suitable management team, as well as expressions of interest from potential tourism product providers.
Forestry Tasmania’s latest tourism attraction – The Maydena Adventure Hub is located 80 kilometres west of Hobart. The area is rich in timber heritage and flanked by iconic giant trees, wild rivers, kilometres of forest tracks and is nestled near the edge of the World Heritage Area and Mt Field National Park.
Advertisements were published in local and national newspapers on the weekend to attract tourism operators interested in developing and operating outdoor adventure activities around the Hub. Early indications are that interest in the opportunity is strong.
The Hub is based around a “rooftop of Tasmania” experience at an Eagles Eyrie lookout on the summit of the Maydena Range. A shopfront in the Maydena township will operate at the centre of the Adventure Hub.
Managers – Maydena Hub
Forestry Tasmania is looking for an enthusiastic management team with experience in outdoor adventure activity, an eye for detail and entrepreneurial flair to manage the development of the Maydena Hub. The position will be ideally suited to a couple with great people skills, comfortable working in a close-knit community. Duties will include developing and coordinating the central tourism experience, recruiting and liaising with other operators and overseeing the day-to-day running of the Hub.

Outdoor Adventure Providers
Forestry Tasmania wants to partner with adventure activity providers capable of delivering an exceptional recreation experience in this amazing location. The opportunities for adventure providers are endless – whether they are interested in 4WD tours, mountain biking, horse riding, bushwalking, fishing, caving, rock climbing or something completely different.
For the right operators, the Maydena Hub will provide some support services to get their businesses up and running but it is essential that the successful providers bring their imagination, sense of adventure and a passion for the beauty of Tasmania!

Forestry Tasmania Acting Managing Director, Penny Egan, said “The adventure hub is all about partnerships – partnerships with other tourism providers, and partnerships with the local community and local government.
“The Adventure Hub is an initiative that fits well with Forestry Tasmania’s commitment to developing employment and business opportunities for others.
“We have purchased the Maydena Trading Post for the shopfront, which is scheduled for refurbishment in Spring. The footings for the Eagles Eyrie at the Summit of Abbots Peak have been started and construction will continue when the weather permits.”
“We anticipate that the $2.1 million infrastructure works will be finished in the first quarter of next year.”
