New public forest management plan provided to the Government
DATE 08/08/2008
Forestry Tasmania has today presented their new framework for the sustainable management of Tasmania’s state forests to the State Government.
The Sustainability Charter is a single statewide forest management plan that takes into account and balances economic, social and environmental values.
The Sustainability Charter replaces seven district forest management plans with one document that outlines how Forestry Tasmania plans to manage the forest estate for the next decade.
Executive General Manager Hans Drielsma said having one document will make information on forest management more accessible to the wider community, allowing Forestry Tasmania to more transparently communicate our statewide direction with Tasmanians.
“A draft of The Sustainability Charter was exhibited for public comment for 60 days in December 2007.”
“The plan has been amended following submissions from the community and the Sustainability Charter has now been submitted to the Minister for Energy and Resources for his consideration."
The Charter is available at
www.forestrytas.com.au and further submissions can be made to the Minister prior to his final decision.
